Overpowering almond flavor.

Torta Pistacchio Bar Castello Catania

Rating: 4/10

Bar Castello, located in the outskirts of Catania, is open 24/7, making it a landmark for late-night cravings—after all, a true Catanese would never turn down an arancino or a Nutella cornetto at midnight. Given the quality of their products, it is obviously a popular bar even outside of late-night hours.

After yet another dinner featuring their excellent tavola calda (unfortunately nothing pistachio-flavored), we decided to finish with a slice of pistachio cake, which looked truly inviting.

We had already tried their treccina al pistacchio, which was delicious but lacked any pistachio flavor. We were hoping this cake would have more to say, but instead, once again, we were faced with a virtually non-existent pistachio flavor (unless you only eat the chopped nuts on top) because the cream has an overpowering almond flavor that masks everything else. Setting the pistachio aside, the overall flavor isn't bad, but it's not exciting either.

In light of this, the rating is, unfortunately, only 4/10, due to the almost untraceable pistachio taste. We sincerely hope that Bar Castello can improve the cream in their cake, in keeping with their well-deserved reputation.
