Delicious, yes. Pistachio, no!

Treccina Pistacchio Bar Castello

Rating: 4/10

Bar Castello, located on the outskirts of Catania, is open 24/7, making it a landmark when it comes to late-night cravings, because after all, a true Catanese would never turn down an arancino or a Nutella cornetto at midnight. Given the quality of its products, it is obviously a popular bar even outside of late-night hours.

After a dinner with some excellent tavola calda (unfortunately nothing with pistachio), I decided to finish with a pistachio gelato and a pistachio treccina.

The gelato is very good, but I will talk about that in a dedicated article, while the treccina turned out to be very disappointing. The dough is delicious, practically perfect, in line with the tradition of Catanese pastry. The cream used for the filling is also very good, with its sugary taste (almost like a jam) but not overly so, but if you remember that you ordered a pistachio treccina, many doubts arise as to where the pistachio is in that cream. Apart from the green color, nothing will remind you, not even remotely, of the taste of pistachio.

Although the product is delicious, with the pistachio flavor so absent, the rating can only be 2 pistachios. If you are craving something sweet with pistachio and you are at Bar Castello, I highly recommend opting for the gelato (not the best, but still very good). If, on the other hand, you are not interested in pistachio, Bar Castello will know how to delight you with its other offerings.

Editor's note: the bar's name comes from its location, in front of the Castello di Leucatia
