Granita Pistacchio Chiosco Bar Caprice Ali Terme Messina

Rating: 8/10

If you're craving a refreshing pistachio granita on the seafront of Alì Terme (Messina), an excellent choice is Chiosco Bar Caprice, a small seaside kiosk that is sure to impress you.

The granita has the right consistency—icy and soft at the same time—just as the Messina tradition dictates, without any milk to make it resemble gelato. You'll notice it immediately from the "foam," but above all from the fact that it melts very quickly, which will allow you to happily dip your typical brioche "col tuppo" and finish your breakfast by drinking the liquid left at the bottom of the glass.

But the real highlight is, of course, the well-defined pistachio flavor, with no unwanted aftertastes (typically almond). It doesn't reach the intensity of the granitas from the province of Catania (often helped by milk), but it is excellent nonetheless. In my opinion, it is a tad too sweet, but not so much that it becomes bothersome (and this falls within the realm of personal taste anyway).

Ultimately, given the excellent pistachio flavor, it gets a thumbs up. The kindness of the staff and the beautiful sea view will do the rest.

The brioche and the other granita flavors are also excellent, such as the mulberry one you see paired with it in the photo.
