Good, but mediocre. Catania has better to offer.

Granita Pistacchio Bar Kennedy Catania

Rating: 3

Bar Kennedy, in the heart of Catania (not to be confused with the one in Acireale), might look appealing to a tourist walking from the central station toward the historic center, thanks to its lavish decor and always-full display cases. Among the many options, the pistachio granita was a must-try, so I gave it a go.

The pistachio granita at Bar Kennedy is perfectly average for the city, with a texture that is a bit too compact and an excessively sugary flavor, both resulting from the use of a pistachio paste base. To be clear, the granita is good, but the pistachio flavor doesn't really stand out, as it's overshadowed by the typical sugary taste found in most pistachio granitas (and not just in Catania).

The brioche I paired it with was truly excellent: nice, soft, and tasty. An essential companion for any self-respecting breakfast. The value for money is quite good, as the price is not high.

Ultimately, it is a good pistachio granita that can satisfy a first-time tourist or a local who can't go elsewhere, but the city has better to offer. Given its pistachio flavor—present, but not brilliant—the rating is 3 pistacchi.

Editor's note: The other granita flavors are very good, especially the delicious white fig granita.
