Decent cream, terrible panettone!

Panettone Pistacchio Terre Tesori Ard Discount

A staple on Italian tables, panettone is now one of the main symbols of Christmas. Among the endless variations, the pistachio panettone is a must, but navigating the numerous artisanal and supermarket options is no easy task.

Among the supermarket offerings is the panettone with a small jar of pistachio cream from Terre e Tesori, which you can find at ARD Discount stores. Its very attractive aspect, at least back in 2017, was undoubtedly the price, as it was on sale for less than 10 euros near Christmas!

The packaging is very nice, with black and green tones, as well as various elegant and inviting graphic details.

Once opened, the appearance didn't thrill us, though aesthetics have never been a fundamental factor for Pistacchissimo, especially in such an affordable price range.

The cream, made with 22% pistachio, is a bit too dense, with a significant impact from the fats and sugars present, but the pistachio flavor is still quite good and therefore more than acceptable, always in relation to the product's price point.

The real problem is the panettone itself, not so much because of the very thin glaze and the unconvincing praline topping—aspects one could overlook—but because of the taste of the dough itself. The panettone is far too dense, indicating lackluster leavening, but above all, it has aftertastes that, in our opinion, are truly unpleasant.

The only way to mask that taste is to be generous with the cream, which, as mentioned, is quite good, but the amount required means the small jar is likely insufficient, besides being a bit paradoxical if you've decided to enjoy a panettone.

In our opinion, the panettone does not have a pleasant flavor and therefore we absolutely did not like it; consequently, the rating is 2/10. Even the idea of drowning everything in cream is, in our view, not a viable solution, because ultimately, anyone buying a panettone wants to enjoy the unique qualities of the dough as well.
