Soft dough and good toasted pistachio cream.

Panettone Pistacchio Caffe Europa Catania

Caffè Europa is one of the most famous bars in Catania, located on Corso Italia, just a short walk from the seafront. We had the pleasure of tasting their pistachio panettone.

The panettone comes in a very elegant box featuring the Caffè Europa logo, which includes a jar of pistachio cream alongside the panettone. Like many others, Caffè Europa has opted for a separate jar to spread as you slice, rather than pre-filling the panettone.

The dough, without raisins or candied fruit, is very soft and tasty, with a hint of orange flavoring. The aroma is not excessive, though it does slightly influence the pistachio flavor.

The pistachio cream has a pistachio content of 17%; while not particularly high, the pistachio flavor is still present and very pleasant, thanks in part to a strong roast level. The cream blends perfectly with the dough, and I really enjoyed this panettone.

The topping is very rich in pistachios, all Sicilian and coarsely ground, which makes them visually appealing and, above all, provides a pleasant texture when biting into them. The pistachio on the topping is of good quality, but it ends up being softened and sweetened, losing a bit of its natural flavor.
