Crunchy bread and excellent pistachio. Plenty of ingredients to choose from.
Il Sambuco is a summer spot specializing in pane cunzato (seasoned bread), located in Savoca, a beautiful and very charming little village in the province of Messina that is well worth a visit.
Starting with a 500g loaf (recommended for 2 people), you can build your own pane condito by choosing from a vast menu of toppings, which includes pistachio cream (essentially a pistachio pesto).
To really let the pistachio shine, according to my personal taste, I built mine like this:
- Coppa (cured meat)
- Provola dei Nebrodi
- Yellow cherry tomatoes
- Pistachio
The flavor combination turned out to be a winner, giving me a delicious sandwich that still managed to highlight the good quality of the pistachio they use.
The bread, nice and crunchy, perfectly rounds everything off.
Obviously, you can build it however you like, but always remember that the intensity of the pistachio varies depending on the ingredients you pair it with. The rating in my review refers to what I tasted, with the specific combination of ingredients I chose.
