Don Peppinu is an award-winning artisanal gelateria with many locations throughout southeastern Sicily, specifically:

Their strength is undoubtedly the quality of their raw ingredients and their perfect technique, which make the gelato structurally excellent and delicious on the palate, successfully highlighting the authentic flavor of the ingredients.

The sweetness is also perfectly balanced, making the gelato extremely enjoyable.

I recommend trying all their flavors (I'll list my favorites below), but now let's talk about pistachio, which comes in three varieties:

Regarding pistachio, you can choose from two versions:

Oro Verde Grezzo: available for many years, it is a blend of roasted and salted pistachios. The flavor is intense, driven by the roasting and salting process, which constantly teases the palate. You can't have just one scoop!
Brontessa: a 2024 newcomer, made with Pistacchio Verde di Bronte DOP (certified!). The taste is more delicate (but spot-on!), because the pistachio is lightly roasted, specifically to keep the authentic taste of natural Bronte pistachio unaltered. With these natural flavor notes, it gently caresses the palate. Some might be taken aback if they aren't familiar with the true taste of natural Bronte pistachio, but this is exactly how it should be! It costs €1 more, which I find completely fair to cover the very high cost of the raw material.
Doppiu Pistacchio: a 2026 newcomer, also using a blend of roasted and salted pistachios, but the percentage of pistachio in the gelato is DOUBLE that of Oro Verde Grezzo. The flavor is extremely intense, truly powerful on the palate, driving your taste buds wild. Personally, I still prefer the rare goodness of Brontessa, but I am sure that Doppiu Pistacchio will win over many hearts!
