Gran Caffè Santonocito is a café in Misterbianco (Lineri - Montepalma area) particularly famous for its rich selection of gluten-free and lactose-free products. This time, we tried their pistachio granita.
Overall, the granita is pleasant, very smooth, and has a distinct creaminess. The creaminess is a bit excessive, making it feel too much like gelato (which doesn't happen with their other flavors, for instance). The sugar is well-balanced.
The pistachio flavor is well-defined, and there are no unpleasant aftertastes (like almond or artificial flavorings). The roast is very strong, so there is no raw pistachio flavor, only roasted pistachio. However, it's not the kind of roast that "reminds you of hazelnut"; it is clearly pistachio.
It doesn't quite reach the top tier, but it is still a mid-to-high-level granita. A good option if you are in the area.
