Soft dough and excellent ingredients, but not enough pistachio.
Rating: 7/10
Pizzeria Balsamo, in Catania, is an excellent pizzeria that makes some of the best takeaway pizzas in its area, with soft dough and quality ingredients, characterized by fast and precise service. We decided, of course, to try their pistachio pizza as well.
NOTE: after our first review, the pizzeria improved the product, raising the score, which was previously lower than it is now. I really appreciated both their interest in improving and the actual improvement made!
Among the various options on the menu, we chose the "Splendida", with buffalo mozzarella, cream, pistachio pesto, porcini mushrooms, speck, parmesan, and chopped pistachios. You will also find a version with mortadella on the menu, as well as a vegetarian one without cured meats.
The dough is confirmed to be soft and tasty, topped with rich ingredients and high-quality toppings, which make the pizza very pleasant, flavorful, and well-dressed in every bite!
The amount of pistachio is a bit low, making the flavor present but subtle, and allowing the other ingredients (parmesan, speck, mushrooms) to prevail. Both the pesto and the chopped pistachios, while reasonably present, are not in sufficient quantity to strongly define the pistachio taste.
Overall, it is above the average for takeaway pizzerias in terms of pistachio, but I will continue to prefer them for their other non-pistachio pizzas, which are all truly excellent!
