Pistachio is undetectable in the abundant filling, which is packed with onions.

The siciliana is a specialty that is a true cult in Zafferana Etnea (Catania), so much so that you can find it on every street corner. Among the most renowned places to enjoy this treat is undoubtedly Il Castello di Bacco, famous for its generously sized siciliane overflowing with filling, and naturally, the pistachio siciliana is a must-try.
On the menu, it goes by the name "Bronte" and the ingredients are: cheese, pistachio cream, sausage, and pepper. The pistachio cream is made with cream, chopped pistachios, and onions (lots of onions!).

The pizza is truly huge, and the puffiness that characterizes it isn't just air, but a very generous amount of filling that will surprise you the moment you open it! The dough is good and well-fried, and the overall taste is also good (the sausage, in particular, is very tasty). However, the disappointment hits the moment you try to taste the pistachio: it's an impossible task! Especially when it's very hot, the flavor of the onion dominates completely, becoming almost a bit overwhelming. Letting it cool down improves the situation slightly, as the onion mellows out and the flavors blend better, but the pistachio remains impossible to detect.

It's a real shame, because visually you will notice a good amount of chopped pistachios and you will even feel the coarse bits between your teeth, but all of this fails to impart any pistachio flavor. To be picky, the filling, especially when it cools down, turns out to be a bit too salty.

The takeaway price of only €4 is truly competitive, but if you are looking for the taste of pistachio, look elsewhere and opt for one of the many other tempting alternatives on the menu. The rating can only be 2 pistachios, meaning it's a good product, but without any pistachio flavor.
