Compared to the initial 2017 version, since 2019 the cream has been made lighter by reducing the pure pistachio paste,
based on feedback from customers who found the pistachio taste too strong
A tasty fried dough, thin and crumbly, overflowing with filling: this is the formula for the "siciliana", also known as "pizza siciliana". On the slopes of Etna, it is a true institution, and if you want to eat a pistachio siciliana made to perfection, you must head to Caffèttiamo Store in Pedara.
The siciliana is one of the signature items at this spot, which is increasingly specializing in creating pistachio delights (full list here). The dough is excellent, just the right thickness and well-fried, without too much oil. The presentation is also very pleasant, with some pistachio on the outside as well.
Once opened, you will find an abundant and truly delicious pistachio cream that blends with the other ingredients while always remaining the star. There are several variations of the pistachio siciliana on their menu, including one called "Pistacchissimo". Everyone can choose their favorite based on the toppings they prefer (ham, speck, mushrooms, etc.).
Being huge and super stuffed, it is truly a challenge to finish it all, but you can take the leftovers home and eat them the next day: it stays delicious! If you go early in the evening, they also offer takeaway. To ensure freshness and quality, they are made to order, so you won't find them ready-made on the counter.
Ultimately, it is absolutely worth trying, and to this day, I haven't found a pistachio siciliana that is quite as "pistachio-y" (not even in the infamous Zafferana).
