Gran Caffè Santonocito is a beautiful café between Misterbianco and San Giovanni Galermo (Catania), known for its vast selection of savory snacks and pastries, with counters always stocked with tempting treats.
Among the many savory options, we find a full set of pistachio items: bomba, arancino, cartocciata, and cipollina! I was particularly drawn to the bomba fritta, which promised to be a true explosion of pistachio cream, so I rushed to try it!
Although the overall flavor is quite good, thanks to the excellent, well-fried dough and the quality of the ham and cheese used in the filling, the pistachio aspect is a major disappointment. The pistachio cream is very scarce and, to make matters worse, it has no pistachio flavor at all, tasting more like onion instead.
To be sure I wasn't misjudging it, I went back twice, months apart, but the situation remained unchanged.
