"Michelin-starred" quality with a casual twist.
If you find yourself in Catania, on Via Etnea just a stone's throw from the Quattro Canti, there is one stop you cannot miss: Biscò. This isn't your typical spot; it's a physical extension of the Michelin-starred restaurant Coria, created by chefs Domenico Colonnetta and Francesco Patti. Here, you get to experience high-end cuisine without the "weight" of the star: the atmosphere is elegant yet easy-going, prices are accessible, and the menu ranges from brunch to late-night drinks.
We sampled various dishes and, believe me, everything was delicious. Among the savory options, the cazzilli di patate with raw tuna, the tuna tartare, and the arancinetti with cuttlefish and pork really stand out. My favorite? The bruschetta with shrimp and egg yolk, paired with a nostalgic 80s-style shrimp cocktail. The recommended wine was delightful, and I will definitely be back to try their cocktail menu.
The desserts are a showstopper: the lemon tart is excellent, but the tiramisù is perhaps the best I have ever had in Catania. A glorious finale.
It is not a cheap place in absolute terms, but the value for money is excellent given the level of quality offered. I recommend checking the menu on their website biscoviaetnea.it.
