Green yes. Pistachio no.

Panettone Pistacchio Dais

One of the symbols of Christmas, a staple on Italian tables, is undoubtedly the panettone. Among the endless variations, the pistachio panettone is a must, and navigating the countless options between supermarket and artisanal panettoni is no easy task.

The historic Sicilian company Dais, a leader in large-scale retail, offers its pistachio panettone named "Verde Siciliano". Besides being green, will it actually taste like pistachio?

Very easy to find in supermarkets and sold at an extremely competitive price (well under €10), it features: pistachio cream filling and white chocolate pistachio glaze with pistachio praline topping.

Panettone Pistacchio Dais

The dough is very simple, without candied fruit or raisins, a feature that is statistically preferred by most consumers for this type of product. It is quite soft and leavened well enough, considering it is a long-shelf-life industrial product aimed at mass retail.

Moving on to the pistachio cream, one is inevitably disappointed by the almost total absence of pistachio flavor. The cream is good, to be clear, giving the product a nice overall taste, but one that cannot be traced back to pistachio, but rather to a simple custard. The presence of only 15% pistachio paste proves insufficient, and furthermore, the type of cream used has a "boozy" aftertaste.

If you want to spend very little and don't have high expectations, it is certainly a product with good value for money, but don't expect to actually taste the pistachio. The final rating is therefore 4/10.
