Well-rounded and fresh flavor, but very little pistachio.

Yogurt Pistacchio Pittalis Eataly

Rating: 4/10

While strolling through the aisles of Eataly in Milano, we stumbled upon a creamy pistachio-flavored yogurt that, with its intense green base, seems to make big promises.

Inside the 140-gram glass jar, we find white yogurt made with 100% Italian milk and a bottom layer of "pistachio-based compound" (as defined on the label). This compound represents 15% of the product, but only 5% of that is actually pistachio, resulting in a decidedly meager actual percentage of pistachio, despite the color. Mixing it all together yields a pale green yogurt that looks quite credible, especially thanks to the visible bits of pistachio inside.

Unfortunately, upon tasting, there is no trace of pistachio flavor, other than a vague, almost imperceptible hint. The overall taste is quite pleasant, even if a bit too sweet at times, thanks mainly to the excellent white yogurt used as a base. Sadly, for those seeking the taste of pistachio, the result is far from exciting.

The basic idea of using a pistachio paste as a variegation could be a winner, but the percentage of pistachio is too small to provide flavor and balance out the typical tartness of a yogurt. As it stands, the rating, specifically regarding the pistachio flavor, is 4/10.
