Paradiso Gelato is a landmark in Priolo, known for its high-quality gelato and a great selection of granite. We decided to try the pistachio granita, paired with the classic brioche.

The tasting

Upon the first spoonful, the pistachio flavor comes through clearly and, which is not a given, there is no almond aftertaste to confuse the palate. A moderately marked roasted note prevails, which is pleasant and natural.

However, the granita is very fresh and light, feeling rather watery on the palate. While this texture makes it thirst-quenching and not overly sweet, it prevents the pistachio from reaching its full intensity: the flavor is there, but it doesn't "explode" with the creamy power we've come to expect from some of the top-tier spots in Catania and Messina.

The brioche

It is served with a brioche that has a very genuine taste. It isn't among the softest or airiest — it is actually quite dense and a bit "bready" — but it remains pleasant and suitable for scooping up the granita.

Conclusions

Overall, this is a good granita for the Siracusa area, honest and fresh, even if it doesn't reach the absolute heights of the Sicilian granita tradition. The rating is held back by the lower intensity due to the watery consistency, despite the aromatic quality being spot on. It is worth noting that the gelato at this shop is of a superior level, as detailed in our dedicated review.
