Excellent takeaway pizza with plenty of pistachio.
The pizzeria "Pizza in Piazza da Zinna" is located, as the name suggests, in Piazza Grande in San Giovanni Galermo (Catania). It is a takeaway pizzeria that many had recommended to me for the richness of its pistachio pizza.
After trying it, I can confirm that it is an excellent pistachio pizza that really impressed me! The dough, in the classic Catania style, is very hearty and flavorful.
The pistachio is truly abundant, used in the form of raw pesto and a sprinkling of pistachio flour. The pistachio in both pizzas is of good quality.
Pistachio is featured in three pizzas on the menu, among which we tried the Pistacchina and the Modenese:
- Pistacchina: without mortadella
- Modenese: with mortadella
In the Pistacchina, the flavor of the pistachio stands out boldly, as the combination with cream accentuates its sweetness, while the parmesan shavings add a slight contrasting note.
In the Modenese, however, the mortadella mellows the taste of the pistachio a bit, but without completely masking it, creating a good balance of flavors nonetheless.
Personally, I preferred the Pistacchina, but personal taste certainly plays a role. My rating is therefore 8/10 for the Pistacchina and 7/10 for the Modenese.
If you are looking for a good takeaway pistachio pizza in San Giovanni Galermo, this place is definitely not to be missed!
